Neo Soul News Changes………….
Hi My name is Cynthia. Me and my homegirl are college students
We are lovers of Neo Soul music. We have been big followers of many of the blogs we re posted here. And one of my longtime mentors encouraged me to setup a site and test things out. I knew from go I didnt have the steady time to add the great content I found and instead of trying to reprint great blogs or copy their greatness I tought it would be cool to have a site where every now and then I blog.
Unfortunately some people have taken offense to linking to their blogs so I am discontinuing in this manner. And apologizing to any blogger or web owner in general who took offense.
However I do have faith in this site to deliver its own vibe and I am currently discussing some partnerships to make that happen.
Hang in there with us. And thank you for your patience.
COLIN MUNROE INTERVIEW
“I’m of the opinion - especially in this day and age - that having a record in the marketplace doesn’t mean anything if the right pieces aren’t in place.” - the unsung hero increasingly known as Colin Munroe tells SoulCulture.
Influenced by a range of artists including Lewis Taylor, the Beatles, Slum Village, Stevie Wonder and [...]
Review: Cadillac Records
Somewhere within the desperation, excitement, misery and sheer exuberance of the musical/financial enterprise which was Chess Records lies the momentous turning point in the history of popular music when Chuck Berry was said to have ‘integrated the airwaves,’ literally turning thousands of white suburban teens into addicts of what was in the 1950’s still considered [...]
REVIEW: THRILLER LIVE
Certain musicians should, nay, must have musicals written about them. Michael Jackson is undoubtedly one of these artists.
Queen and Abba have highly successful musicals written about them and it seems natural that someone larger than life like the King of Pop would have one written about him.
The material is certainly there in the sense of [...]

The Next Houvement
well.
i looked at my watch.
and apparently i still have some cred round these parts.
whenever the opportunity arises i am more than happy to
do my part when it comes to putting people on to a certain act
that they otherwise might not be too privy of.
unlike my pre internet ravings in the press about d’angelo, erykah, and jill.
and my religion created especially for slum village.
and the list goes on and on and on for the likes of little brother, sa-ra, j’davey, tonya morgan, esperanza, and the gaspers of all gaspers solange.
well. time to roll out the barrel yet again (i’m slightly late because frank featured them in “rappers i know ahmir won’t bandwagon until it’s too late” section)
i dont wanna make all that a big deal about them. i simply wanna give you a chance to “in” yourself on the bottom flo.
ladies and gentleman: *drumroll*
HISD
Scottie Spitten
Spitten King
Lenoge
King Midas
again. despite the path that my career took my personal taste still gravitates to the basic meat and potatoes in hip hop.
chop a lil somethin
spit something ill.
rinse.
repeat.
enjoy.
*DEAD*
most hip hop purists love to debate the day that changed hip hop forever.
i’ve heard Raising Hell changed the game cause it caught the attention of the white dollar
i’ve heard Licensed To Ill changed the game cause white people caught the attention of the black dollar.
i’ve heard that Please Hammer Dont Hurt Em changed the game cause it caught the attention of radio.
i’ve heard that The Chronic changed the game cause it caught the attention of critics.
i’ve heard Ready To Die changed the game cause it caught the attention of pretty much every credible mc that followed in its footsteps ever since (”hey nas”….”hello brooklyn”)
well that “almost” didn’t happen.
i just got my hands on the original mastered version of RTD and i have to say. that as a business man? Puff knew what the hell he was doing.
now granted to my stubborn ears back in 94 i was crying “the f@#$ is this wanna be Chronic, chicks singing RNB mess, played out loops slowed down shit?!”—-i mean Big was killing it. but i always wondered why “Big Poppa” couldn’t go a step further with a more obscure loop than the now overdone “Between The Sheets”—
it would take me 15 years of dj’n to figure that one out.
the discoveries i made on the OG ready to die sorta make me think like the scenario michael and quincy went with once they tweeked the mess outta Thriller. and just like that album i can see a refreshing difference it makes once you trim the fat.
not to say that the fat they cut was all the way disposable….
there are some gems throughout.
“but i understand”
